A Chinese medical team has provided free treatment to more than 400 people from Seke district in Mashonaland East province.
Organised by Tian Ze Tobacco in collaboration with the Chamber of Chinese Enterprises in Zimbabwe, the eight-member medical team treated ailments as part of a social responsibility programme at Dunolly Farm.
A Chinese embassy official Mr Han Bing said they organised the Health Day as part of efforts to assist needy communities in rural areas.
“As economic ties between our two countries continue to grow, there is need to plough back to local communities,” he said.
The free treatment campaign has since last year offered health services in Gweru, Mutare, Bindura and Chinhoyi.
Beneficiaries hailed the Chinese medical team for its assistance.
“I am happy because we have always had challenges in accessing treatment as we live far away from hospitals,” said Mr Peter Bangure, a farm worker.
“The Chinese team is doing a commendable job. They must keep this up.”
Last year, a Chinese medical team donated glucose testing kits in Epworth to help in diabetes diagnoses. In 2011, the Chinese government constructed two schools in the country and a hospital in Mahusekwa in Mashonaland East.
China and Zimbabwe enjoy good relations that date back to the liberation war era.
