A NUMBER of long distance bus drivers have been operating with fake route permits and failing to adhere to timetables.
The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, Vehicle Inspection Department (VID), City of Harare and the police visited Mbare Musika bus terminus where the scam was exposed.
In a statement, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said more than 300 people were arrested.
“On Friday, 323 arrests were made on the operation, on enforcement of route permits and time tables on Passenger Public Service Vehicles,” said Ass-Comm Nyathi.
“The arrest bring cumulative arrests to 14 786.
“Meanwhile, police arrested 44 people in the operation, ‘No To Dangerous Drugs And Illicit Substances,’ bringing cumulative arrests to 4 767,” he said.
