Business owners in Mutare raise concerns over local lodge’s activities

Business owners from Mutare’s Chikanga Extension in Manicaland province have expressed growing concerns regarding Mr Eluwance Zhoya, who operates a bed and breakfast lodge in the area.

They allege that Mr Zhoya has been accommodating members of the LGBTIQ+ community, who frequently visit the lodge, booking rooms and even using the space for meetings.

The concerned business owners have attempted to engage Mr Zhoya on multiple occasions to address their worries, but their efforts have reportedly been met with silence.

They claim that the presence of these activities has led to a decaying morality within the community, raising alarms about the potential implications for local values and family structures.

One local business owner commented, “We are worried about the message this sends to our children and the community at large. It’s not just about business; it’s about our values and morals.”

Feeling that their concerns have not been adequately addressed, the business owners have taken the step of reporting Mr Zhoya to the police, seeking intervention regarding the situation at his lodge.

A police source confirmed, “We have received the complaint and are currently conducting investigations into the matter.”

Investigations by this publication revealed that this is not the first time Mr Zhoya has been caught in the eye of storm regarding to the operations of the lodge but members of the public have constantly threatened him with violence for entertaining members of the LGBTIQ+ community.

“We will certainly one day burn down that lodge because it is promoting immorality, which is unacceptable in our community,” said one resident.

Efforts to reach Mr Zhoya for a comment on the matter have been unsuccessful, leaving the community in a state of uncertainty as they navigate the implications of his establishment’s activities.
