Businessman loses 187 phones to burglars

ulamwe’s cellphone shop, situated at the corner of Nelson Mandela Avenue and Mbuya Nehanda Street. They allegedly looted cellphones and laptops worth US$5 560.
The trio yesterday appeared before magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma charged with unlawful entry and theft.
They were remanded in custody to November 27 for trial after prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira opposed bail on the basis that they were not suitable candidates for bail.
He submitted that the trio committed a serious offence, which called for a custodial sentence if convicted.
Mr Chakurira said that nothing had been recovered and that one of the gang members was still at large.
He added that the three were likely to abscond trial if granted bail. Ms Tshuma then ruled in favour of the State. It is alleged that on October 18, Mulamwe left his shop at around 6pm after locking the doors and went home.
It is the State’s case that during the night, Chiondo, Musengezi, Matienga and their accomplice Mancani who, is still at large, hatched a plan to steal from the shop. They armed themselves with a hacksaw, which they used to cut one of the burglar bars.
They then smashed the window and gained entry into the shop, it is alleged.
While inside, the quartet stole 187 cellphones and three laptops before disappearing from the scene.
