Businessman, son fight over pub ownership

A CHIPINGE businessman has dragged his biological son to court over the ownership of a popular pub in Chipinge.The businessman, Mr Alfred Dhlakama, who owns Tropicana Night Club in Mt Selinda dragged his Sweden-based son, Mr Charles Dhlakama, whom he accused of interfering in the day-to-day running of the night club.
The two appeared before Chipinge Civil Courts where Mrs Sharon Chipanga presided over the matter last Wednesday.
Mr Alfred Dhlakama was applying for the eviction of his son, Charles.
Mr Dhlakama claimed that Tropicana Club was his property and wanted the courts to evict his son from club and other properties.
Mr Dhlakama told the court that his son was no longer giving him his share of proceeds from the business.
“Your Worship, this property belongs to me and I am not living at peace since my son is interfering with all operations. I was a teacher for 48 years and I established that business alone. I can even show you the title deeds that only bear my name. My son spent a lot of years in Sweden exchanging women there and did not contribute anything towards the success of my business, so this business is my personal property, not a family property,” he said.
In her ruling, Mrs Chipanga referred the matter to the High Court, saying she had no jurisdiction over it because of the cost involved which is above $10 000.
