BULAWAYO will be the centre of thrilling action tomorrow as the country’s top BMX riders battle it out in the Zimbabwe BMX Championships at Busters BMX Club.

All eyes will be on reigning champion Simon Martin, who is gunning for a third consecutive title.
“The 2023 and 2024 Elite Men’s Champion, Simon Martin, will be defending his crown and hoping to make the triple,” said event spokesperson and host, Jackie Pikoulis.

The high-stakes competition has attracted riders from across the country, with the best performers set to be shortlisted for the Zimbabwe national team. Among the prizes on offer is a chance to represent the nation at next year’s World Championships in Brisbane, Australia.

Pikoulis said Bulawayo is fully prepared for the challenge.
“We are ready for the event,” she declared.

Yesterday, the track was buzzing with activity as local and visiting riders tested the hardened course. A Zimpapers drive-by revealed scores of young bikers perfecting their skills ahead of the big day.

“Lots of riders from Harare are already in town and on the track today,” Pikoulis added.
Official gate practice kicks off at 2PM today, giving competitors a final chance to familiarise themselves with the track. Racing will start at 9AM sharp tomorrow, promising a day of high-energy action and intense competition.
