BUY Zimbabwe has appointed Portia Muzorava, widely known as Mambokadzi weSungura, as its new Brand Ambassador.

The development comes as the organisation also confirmed the postponement of its much-anticipated Public Procurement Conference and Awards, originally set for August 20, 2025.

In a statement yesterday, Buy Zimbabwe said Muzorava’s role would be to spearhead promotion of its insignia and lead consumer awareness programmes aimed at entrenching local pride, sustainability and trust in Zimbabwean products.

“As Mambokadzi weSungura, I have always celebrated Zimbabwean culture and identity,” said Muzorava.

“This role allows me to take that passion further by championing Zimbabwean products and services.

“Every time we buy Zimbabwean, we empower communities, create jobs, and strengthen our economy.

“I am honoured to be part of this journey and will work to make the Buy Zimbabwe insignia a household symbol of excellence and pride.”

Her appointment comes at a strategic time, ahead of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show and YAFEST, both of which will showcase local products and innovations.

Buy Zimbabwe chairperson, Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere, said the new ambassador would inject fresh energy into the organisation’s campaign.

“Portia embodies the energy, appeal and cultural pride that define the Buy Zimbabwe campaign. Her influence will help us reach wider audiences, deepen consumer awareness, and ensure greater visibility of our insignia and member products,” he said.

“This appointment marks a new chapter in our journey to grow Zimbabwe by buying local.”

Meanwhile, the Public Procurement Conference and Awards have been deferred to allow the inclusion of findings from an ongoing landmark research study by select Research.

The study focuses on procurement trends in Zimbabwe and is expected to provide data critical for policy dialogue and sector growth.

“As an organisation committed to transparency, competitiveness and local content in public procurement, we felt it was important that the findings of this research are presented and debated within the framework of the conference,” Buy Zimbabwe said.

“This will ensure that the event not only recognises excellence but also serves as a platform for evidence-based dialogue and actionable recommendations.”

The organisation apologised for any inconvenience caused by the postponement, assuring stakeholders that a new date will be announced soon.
