THE stage is set and the basketball court has shifted from hardwood to ballot papers as the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) holds its eagerly awaited elections in Gweru on Saturday morning.
A seasoned quartet of administrators is in charge of steering the process, with former union heavyweights David Mutambara, Bobby Chivaviro and Admire Masenda, together with long serving court official Tendai Mukuruva, forming the elections committee.
The four officials reportedly left Harare in the early hours of Saturday to ensure everything is in place ahead of the vote, which is expected to usher in a brand new executive for the national game.
Outgoing BUZ president Joe Mujuru, who has decided not to run for another term, confirmed that the committee is fully in charge.
He said the quartet will “run the elections expected to usher in a new executive,” ending his tenure and paving the way for fresh leadership to take Zimbabwean basketball forward.
All eyes are now on Gweru to see which direction the sport will take when the final whistle on the elections is blown.
