JUSTICE has finally cornered Gweru’s most infamous fugitive, Peter Dube, after the Bulawayo High Court found him guilty of two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder stemming from a 2021 love-fuelled shooting that sent shockwaves across the nation.
In a hard-hitting statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed the verdict, announcing that Dube’s sentence will be handed down on 26 November 2025.
Dube shot and killed Shelton Chiduku and Gamuchirai Mudungwe on 22 April at an apartment in Gweru CBD.
He also shot his wife, Nyasha and her sister, Nyaradzo Nharingo, both of whom survived the attack. Dube accused Chiduku, of having an affair with his second wife, Nyasha, and blamed Mudungwe, for enabling the alleged affair.
The court heard that Dube arrived home and found Nyasha absent. When she eventually returned with Chiduku, Madungwe, and Nyaradzo, the atmosphere turned icy.
The NPAZ said the offender locked himself inside the apartment, forcing Nyasha to call Dube’s brother for help. “Nyasha and Nyaradzo Nharingo started packing their belongings and threatening to leave the offender,” said the NPAZ. Pure rage-fuelled carnage ensued.
Infuriated, Dube stormed out with a firearm and shot Chiduku, who was seated in his car with Gamuchirai. “They died on the spot,” the NPAZ confirmed.
Dube went back into the apartment where the Nharingo sisters were and shot both of them before fleeing the bloody scene.
In court, the fugitive-turned-accused tried to wiggle out of responsibility, with the NPAZ revealing: “The offender had denied the charges, claiming that he was not mentally stable at the time of the commission of the offences.” The court rejected his defence and found him guilty on all counts.
As the community braces for sentencing, the NPAZ used the moment to drive home a crucial message: “The NPAZ encourages members of the community to handle matters amicably and to engage third party mitigation.”
