WORLD Boxing Federation All Africa heavyweight champion Elvis Victor Moyo is hoping to claim his second successive victory in cage fighting when he takes on Brendon Groenewald next month in Cape Town, South Africa. The two will fight in a title eliminator bout on June 5 with the winner set to battle it out for the belt later this year.
Moyo, better known as the Bulawayo Bomber, is based in Johannesburg and started his cage fighting career with a convincing win against Sors Grobbelaar in March.
In an interview from his base, Moyo said he is ready to batter his opponent.
“Groenewald has experience in cage fighting but I am going to dismantle him.
“Remember, I told you that I want to be the mixed martial arts champion within a year and that requires me to beat the seasoned guys.
“My confidence is getting better with each passing day and I am happy that my movement in the ring is also getting better,” Moyo said.
Groenewald has five fights under his belt, winning three against Vandam Mbuyi, Roelof Scheepers and Grobbelaar. He suffered two defeats from Bernado Mikixi and Gideon Drotschie.
After failing to get more boxing fights last year leading to his loss of the Elev8 sponsorship, Moyo decided to turn to the lucrative Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC Africa) which is broadcast on SuperSport.
EFC Africa stage tournaments every six weeks and Moyo is the first Zimbabwean to participate in the growing sport which is dominated by South Africans, Ghanaians, Congolese, Nigerians and a few Egyptians.
EFC non-championship bouts are fought in three rounds with championship matches being five.
Each round is five minutes.
Unlike in boxing, fighters in EFC are not allowed to enter the ring with shoes.
