THE Team Bulawayo boys’ soccer side is on the verge of completing another impressive run in the National Youth Games after reaching their second consecutive final in Mutare. The soccer team reached the final of last year’s edition but lost 3-5 on penalties to hosts Masvingo after a goalless stalemate in regulation time.

Bulawayo hammered Midlands 3-0 in yesterday’s semi-finals, with goals from Njabulo Mpofu, Stanley Ngala and Denzel Khumalo, to book a date with Matabeleland North in today’s final.

Bulawayo surged through the group stages undefeated after drawing 2-2 against hosts Manicaland, 1-1 against Mashonaland West and edging Matabeleland North 1-0.

Bulawayo coach Agent Sawu promised to win today’s final in regulation time.

“We’ve made it again to the final for the second year running and the boys played very well this time around and didn’t lose a single game,” said Sawu.

“I’ve told the boys not to relax because we haven’t made it yet as we’re yet to play the final. Last year we lost after so much hard work was done and we’ll make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

The Bulawayo girls’ soccer team also made it to the final and will face Mashonaland Central.

The girls’ volleyball team made the final after Harare were thrown out for failing to pay affiliation fees. Harare had beaten Bulawayo in the semi-finals.
