Byo cop breaks into sungura

Tavengwa seems to have broken this jinx by opting to play the sungura genre.
Tavengwa is making waves and riding high with his sungura music video, “Zimbabwe”, that has become a hit on local television channels.

Tavengwa, who defines his music as gospel sungura, made his maiden appearance in 2011 with the album “Chipo Chikuru”.

Outstanding songs on the album include the title track as well as “Jesu Wangu”. In his follow-up album “Tiri Parwendo” early this year, Tavengwa proved he is not a one-album wonder with more polished performances in songs like “Mwana Wangu” and “Mharidzo”.

It is no surprise that the upcoming musician idolises veteran Zora king Leonard Zhakata as there are a lot of similarities in their songs.

“I have had a passion for music from a tender age and although I ventured into a different career, my passion never died.

“My inspiration comes from people like Leonard Zhakata because of his powerful lyrics” he said.
Like his idol, Tavengwa’s lyrics are more of advice and life lessons and listening to a song like “Rume Rimwe” and “Ndiri Ndega” gives one stuff to think about.

Tavengwa is a down-to-earth and ambitious musician.
Tavengwa revealed his plans for collaboration aspirations with seasoned husband and wife artistes Olivia and Charles Charamba.

“Besides the collaborations I am planning a DVD compilation for both of my albums early next year. Most importantly I will be staging shows starting off in Bulawayo.
“I will eventually go on a nationwide tour” he said.
