Byo man missing after botched kidnap

A FAMILY from Bulawayo’s Matsheumhlophe suburb is looking for their son who went missing after escaping a plot to kidnap him at his home last week on Saturday.

Ncethe Vundla, 85, said the alleged attackers left him for dead after failing to “capture” his 30-year-old son Mandson Vundla.

In an interview from his hospital bed yesterday, Ncethe broke into tears describing how a group of masked man threatened to burn his family for hiding Mandson.

“A group of about five men stormed into the house through the kitchen door just after 11pm on Saturday night demanding to know the whereabouts of my son Mandson. They ransacked the housed as they went through their search. After failing to find my son who had sneaked out of the house through the bathroom window, the men began threatened to burn us in the house and assaulted me with fists and boots.

“I told them that Mandson was at work and they only left after I started bleeding through the nose. They said if we go to the police they will return to burn the house down,” said Ncethe.

A neighbour identified as Moyo said these five men were the same gang that allegedly kidnapped his son (name withheld), a friend to Mandson as they demanded to know his whereabouts last month.

Ncethe is appealing for people to assist in finding Mandson, the family’s sole breadwinner.

Bulawayo police spokesman inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed receiving the Vundla report and appealed for information that will lead to the arrest of the five-man gang.

“We are investigating an incident of assault with intention to kidnap that was reported by a Matsheumhlophe family. As police, we are appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the five men,” said Inspector Moyo.
