Byo says goodbye to ‘Captain’

A BULAWAYO businessman Edwin Nkululeko Nxumalo, 63, who was popularly known as “Captain” in the city, has died.
Nxumalo died in his sleep at his home in Selbourne Park suburb on Wednesday.His wife, Florence, discovered that her husband had died at around 5AM.

Nxumalo’s brother, Nyasha Chiwa, said he succumbed to kidney failure. He added that Nxumalo had been ill for some time.

“We’re waiting for his children from South Africa and Britain to arrive home. He’ll be greatly missed because he was a caring person who always gave his best and encouraged people to be givers,” said Chiwa.

He said the family had lost a breadwinner and unifier.

Chiwa described his brother as a man of the people, a peacemaker, humble and generous man who had strong leadership qualities hence they nicknamed him “Captain”.

He said his brother owned a car showroom and ran a restaurant from Paddonhurst suburb. At the time of his death, his brother had plans to expand his businesses.

Nxumalo — who had a brush with the law on numerous occasions during his eventful life — is survived by 15 children and his wife, Florence.

He will be buried today at West Park Cemetery.
