BULAWAYO Metropolitan Province scooped gold at the Youth Day exhibition held at the Large City Hall yesterday. The Youth Day conference was held under the banner “Promoting Friendship, Peace and National Development through Sport.” The ongoing Zimbabwe National Youth Games took a break yesterday from their sporting activities so that all the provinces showcase national development through sport. The exhibition was done through poems, songs and dance. Masvingo who will play host to the next edition of Youth Games next year, came second while Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North came third and fourth respectively.
Edutainment general manager Tsungai Mahamucha said their sole focus was to build responsible athletes and educate them on aspects of citizenship, life skills and leadership among young people.
“The idea of edutainment is to educate through entertainment, information sharing and development through sporting activities,” said Mahamucha.
It is supported by Plan International, the Zimbabwe Family Planning Council, and the Zimbabwe National Aids Council.
Gracing the event was the Child President Ntando Moyo who was the guest of honour. He presented the winning medal to Bulawayo Metropolitan.
The Child President and Milton High School pupil challenged the youth to find purpose in sport and use it as a strong foundation for early development.
