BULAWAYO police recently made a sizable drug bust after a woman in the city was arrested last Wednesday in possession of more than one tonne of marijuana (mbanje) at a bus stop in the city.
Nomsa Sharon Ndebele (25) was arrested at Sizane Bus Stop in Pelandaba high density suburb following tips from the public. Ndebele was found in possession of 1450 kilograms of mbanje.
In a statement released by national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, when the woman was arrested, the arresting officers found her in possession of two packs of loose marijuana in separate plastic bags.
In a separate incident, Bulawayo police arrested 33-year-old Sithokozile Dube on November 23 for possession of drugs. Dube was found in possession of 0.003 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine infamously known as crystal meth or guka.
Police said when she was cornered by detectives during an investigation, she refused to co-operate but was undone by a search of her house which yielded the drugs under her bed leading to her arrest.
In what turned out to be a good week for the war on drugs, police in Bulawayo also arrested Arnold Kuzakwenhamo (37) for possession of 0.004 kilograms of cocaine in Mpopoma.
The arrest was made after another citizen tip-off.
Police said when detectives had surrounded Kuzakwenhamo and were about to make an arrest, he noticed them and sped off in a navy-blue Subaru registration number ADF 6540.
A high-speed chase ensued leading to an accident by the suspect after which he fled on foot and hid in a toilet.
Detectives found him in the toilet and arrested him and recovered two sachets of cocaine hidden in his pants and another two sachets hidden in his car.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police released figures of drug busts from the beginning of the year to date.
The ZRP arrested 7 263 suspects which led to a marijuana haul of 1, 013, 024 kilograms and 1, 143 plants, 6.04 kilograms of cocaine, 1, 331 bottles of Broncleer, 41 bottles of Histalix, 17, 323 kilograms of crystal meth and 1, 241.33 kilograms Ephedrine. The seized drugs have a street value of ZWL36, 206, 058. — @RealSimbaJemwa
