The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) yesterday joined the rest of the world to celebrate the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) 2024 Year of Facilitation as well as the 75th Anniversary of Annex 9-Facilitation. (FAL2024).
The event was held at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
Officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development and other senior Government officials attended the event.
Speaking during the event, CAAZ board chairperson Mrs Nonkosi Ncube said: “Air transport facilitation plays a vital role in the efficient management of border control processes and expediting international air travel. The ICAO Council designated 2024 as the Year of Facilitation,” she said.
She said the ICAO Facilitation (FAL) Programme provides contracting States with the means of maximising the efficiency of their border clearance formalities while also achieving and maintaining high-quality security and effective law enforcement.
“Facilitation starts from the time of booking to the final destination. Airport and passenger facilitation ensure that the flow of travellers, baggage, cargo, and mail is efficient and delivered in a healthy, safe, and secure environment on the ground and in the air.
As we celebrate this important day, I wish to reiterate the importance of continued collaboration among all players in the travel and tourism sectors to create an enabling environment for the growth and promotion of trade, tourism and investment,” Mrs Ncube said.
