DESPITE that heas one of the most revered wordsmiths on the local scene, rapper Cal_vin will abandon hip-hop in his upcoming love themed project set for release on Valentineas Day.
The rapper lays out the five-track project in different acts, as each song charts his journey from the time he begins courtship of a woman who has become the apple of his eye to the time that he decides to break up with her because of their differences which have become irreconcilable.
Artistes set to feature on the album are Vusa Mkhaya, songbird Linda while behind the boards the likes of Sylent Nqo, Octopus and Simba Tagz will handle the production.
a?The first song chronicles me seeing someone that I like and in the second I narrate our dating phase. In the next track I tell the listener about the conflict between me and this person and in the penultimate track I talk about me having second thoughts about this person and in the last track I narrate our break-up. So basically the project has a beautiful start and a sad ending,a? Cal_vin said in an interview.
Hip-hop is not usually associated with topics like love, but the rapper explained how the albumas conception had come about.
a?I was just in a different zone, in a different season. There was a lot I wanted to say but I couldnat do it on one song so I decided to split that into an album. I felt like this was the appropriate time for me to express myself in that direction.
a?What youare going to hear is Cal_vin rapping but more of Cal_vin singing. This album is not even hip-hop because I was experimenting with my vocals more than anything,a? he said.
