GWERU will be the place to be this weekend as the city will host some of the country’s top dancehall acts. Controversial dancehall bad boy Seh Calaz (real name Tawanda Mumanye) is billed to perform at Liquid Lounge tomorrow followed by a performance by Souljah Love on Saturday at the Midlands hotel.
Seh Calaz – the Mumota menyu murikubvira hit-maker has time and again been condemned along with other upcoming Zim dancehall artistes for promoting and glorifying drug abuse.
His manager, Godfrey Bakasa, however, defended the Mbare-bred chanter saying singing about drugs was the nature of dancehall music.
“Just like RnB is about cars, women and money, dancehall music as a genre cannot be separated from aspects of drugs. We are merely singing what’s happening in the ghetto, not necessarily promoting the use of drugs,” Bakasa said.
He encouraged dancehall lovers to attend the show in numbers, promising fireworks.
“We are going to give Gweru fans something to remember. Seh Calaz will be delivering something new and different than what they have heard so far,” he said.
Souljah Love – Zimbabwe’s own Vybz Kartel, recently made headlines following his feud with his estranged manager Courage Zikhali over his alleged love for the illicit “bronco”.
