THE Women’s Democracy Network (WDN-ZW), a group of female leaders and advocates for gender equality, has urged all stakeholders to collaborate in taking immediate action to advance gender-inclusive policymaking to help eradicate all types of gender-based violence.

WNZ-ZW has since launched 10 days of activism against GBV campaign to promote gender-responsive policy-making and challenge harmful gender social norms that hinder women’s participation in public life.

The campaign got underway yesterday.

WDN-ZW Board Member Hezel Sibanda said:

“This year the campaign will run from June 17 to 26 and during the campaign we are to take action to raise awareness about Gender Based Violence (GBV).

“We need to advocate for ofice bearers to address these barriers to addressing GBV and call to action women leaders, gender champions, relevant duty bearers and stakeholders to accelerate action. There is a need to prevent GBV, support GBV survivors and  protect women from all forms of GBV so that women can fully participate in leadership and governance processes at all levels.”

Sibanda added:

“The policymaking is towards an enabling environment, which saw us in the previous week train 33 gender champions who went through an intensive two-day training workshop on Gender Responsive Policy Making.

“The training workshop equipped female and male gender champions on gender-responsive policy-making and advocacy skills so that they can contribute to initiatives to increase, strengthen, and enhance women’s representation, inclusion, and participation in public life. Gender champions are now in action and supported with technical support to implement their individual action plans developed to apply knowledge and skills gained.

“They are expected to contribute towards a more collaborative and inclusive exchange in building a movement of gender champions in their respective communities to promote gender responsive policymaking for ending GBV and social norms affecting women’s representation.”
