Former Hartzell High School students have launched an ambitious bid to raise US$15 000 to help meet illustrious athletics and basketball coach, Ted DeWolf’s medical bills.

Over the years, the veteran coach, DeWolf has identified and nurtured different generations of athletes to reach their peak.

In a Facebook post, Hartzell Old Students Association (HOSA), wrote: “Let us rally around Coach Ted DeWolf. We are reaching out to you today to ask for your help in showing appreciation for one of our beloved teachers and basketball coaches, Mr Ted DeWolf.

“Coach DeWolf has been a pillar of our school community, shaping the lives of countless students, including many of you, through his dedication to education, basketball and track events.”

DeWolf has been unwell since undergoing cancer surgery mid-May.

“Coach DeWolf has been hospitalised in Mutare since cancer surgery in mid-May. There is much medical care still required. We are launching this appeal as a gesture of love to support Coach DeWolf and his family during this challenging time, to supplement where his medical aid falls short.

“We are aiming to raise up to $15 000 to allow Coach DeWolf’s family to focus on his recovery without worrying about the financial burden,” further reads the notice by HOSA.
