Zimbabweans to be united and embrace empowerment initiatives if the nation is to develop.
Cde Zhuwao was speaking during debate in the House on the speech by President Mugabe when he officially opened the Fourth Session of the Seventh Parliament.
“We need to play as a team in order to build this great house (Zimbabwe) of ours,” he said.
“We should base our development on our resources and our human resources play an important role in that.
“We should take ownership of that development, it is none but ourselves who can free ourselves. Indigenisation is the way forward because it is us who should lead development and not investors because investors only come to take and develop their countries.”

Cde Zhuwao said it was important that Zimbabwe should benefit from its minerals and get their full value.
“We need to beneficiate our resources.
“There is a fallacy that we do not have capacity to refine our platinum, yet we have the second largest reserves in the world,” he said.
Cde Zhuwao called for the removal of illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by Western countries.
He said there was need for financial sector reforms to take care of the large numbers of new farmers.
Mutoko North member Cde Mable Chinomona (Zanu-PF) said it was important that Government increased support to communal farmers who have contributed immensely to the turnaround in the agriculture sector.
“We should support our farmers and those tasked with implementing issues mentioned in the Presidential speech should ensure that that is done,” she said.

“As a representative of a rural constituency, I also call upon Government and local authorities, especially in Harare to provide decent places for our farmers to sell their produce.
“Government should also ensure that the viability of the farmers is protected by preventing the influx of produce from South Africa that is flooding our markets.”
Bulawayo East representative, Ms Thabitha Khumalo (MDC-T), said the implementation of the Global Political Agreement would go a long way in solving the country’s problems outlined in the Presidential speech.
She urged Government to carry out the land audit to ensure that farmers were supported from an informed point of view.
“There is need for a land audit,” she said.
“How do you come up with land policies when we have not done a land audit of who has what and who is where?”
Kambuzuma representative, Mr Willas Madzimure (MDC-T), gave notice to move a motion for Parliament to set up a committee to investigate among other issues, the betting and bribery scandal that has rocked Zimbabwean soccer, emanating from trips by national soccer teams to Asia.
The scandal, now known as Asiagate, has sucked in a number of football administrators and former and current national team players.
Mr Madzimure said those implicated in the scandal should be arrested and the matter be referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
