Call to honour heroes

Heroes Day organising committee chairperson Cde Alfred Tome has urged people to come in their numbers for the commemorations at the national shrine on Monday next week. He said people should come to honour the country’s fallen heroes for their spirit which guided them in voting well in the just-ended harmonised elections.

Cde Tome made the remarks during a press conference for preparations of the Heroes Day commemorations in Harare on Wednesday.

“It’s now time to go back in our numbers to the national shrine where our heroes lie and say thank you for your spirits which guided us in voting well in the just-ended harmonised elections, he said.

“We must go and tell our heroes that we voted well and managed to bring your country back.”

Cde Tome applauded the role that was played by women during the campaigns for the harmonised elections and said that Zanu-PF was supposed to reclaim all the seats in Harare.

“Your campaigns have successfully brought the country back, what we only failed was just a small portion. Since our revolutionary icon Mbuya Nehanda was hanged here in Harare represented by you the women, we were supposed to take Harare back and retain her bones,” said Cde Tome, who is also Harare provincial administrator.

He also commended the uniformed forces for preserving a peaceful environment.
