Call to maintain peace

Churches and civic organisations have called on Zimbabweans to maintain the prevailing peace and tolerance as the nation the harmonised election today.Heads of Christian Denominations in Zimbabwe yesterday called on the nation to pray for continued peace and tolerance that is prevailing in the country ahead of the polls.

“The church therefore calls the nation to pray for a peaceful and secure environment with no violence, intimidation and intolerance,” ZHOCD said in a statement.

The organisation brings together the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Union for the Development of the Apostolic and Zionist Churches in Zimbabwe Africa.

The ZHOCD called on political parties to shun inflammatory language and unorthodox methods of canvassing for votes at a prayer meeting held at a local hotel last week.
