Call to safeguard sovereignty

Lalapanzi, Midlands on Sunday, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe was a sovereign state and its people had an obligation to jealously guard its independence as well as its natural resources.

He said Zanu-PF had remained committed to ensuring total empowerment through land reform and indigenisation programmes.
He said Zimbabweans were obliged to complement his party’s efforts to empower them by voting for the party that has a rich history and has the people at heart. “Zimbabwe inhaka yemadzitateguru edu yatakapiwa kuti tiichengetedze. It came through a protracted war of independence. Our gallant sons and daughters lost their lives in the struggle for liberation.

“Lest we forget our fallen heroes who selflessly dedicated their lives to free the nation. We must therefore safeguard our sovereignty. Zanu-PF is the only party in the country that has relentlessly fought for the interest of the people and our independence,” he said.

Cde Mnangagwa said Zimbabweans should totally benefit from the country’s natural resources by having total control over its natural resources.
“The country and all its resources are ours. Therefore we should benefit from our resources and must not give them away cheaply. Musagovera vekure nhaka yemadzitateguru vene varipo. Upfumi ndohwenyu muchida musingadi,” he said.

Cde Mnangagwa said Zimbabweans should deal with Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC-T and the Western imperialists once and for all in the forthcoming elections. “This is the time to send a message to the western imperialists and the rest of the world that Zimbabwe is for Zimbabweans. We are sovereign and independent. Tsvangirai believes that Zimbabweans are not capable of utilising their own resources,” he said.

Cde Mnangagwa said Zimbabweans do not need Britain or its allies to dictate to them what to do with their natural resources.
“We went to war so that we can be free and have total control over our own resources. England cannot come and tell us not to redistribute land to the people because the majority of the commercial farmers were of British origin. These people were siphoning resources at the expense of the black people in Zimbabwe,” he said.

Cde Mnangagwa also called for peace ahead of the forthcoming polls. He urged Zimbabweans to vote peacefully. “We as Zanu-PF, we have zero tolerance for violence. We want peace. Peace, peace, peace. We say no, no, no, no to violence. Hatifanirwi kuvhota tichibuda ziya, kwete, saka naizvozvo ngativhotei murunyararo,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zanu-PF secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Rugare Gumbo told supporters in Mberengwa that all candidates who lost in the primary elections must rally behind the aspiring candidates to ensure a resounding victory in the harmonised elections.
