MUTARE City Council needs more than eight ambulances, with the fire department requiring its own fleet to fully service the city.
Council spokesperson, Mr Spren Mutiwi, said they are working on procuring additional ambulances after recently purchasing one ambulance, bringing the total number to three as they move towards ensuring smooth health delivery.
“The re-capitalisation process is bearing fruit as we recently procured another ambulance, making them three now. We are working on the issue of procuring about eight ambulances to fully service the city. The fire department also needs its own fleet of ambulances to fully execute its duties,” he said
He said the local municipality is re-tooling to address challenges bedevilling its operations, adding that Gimboki Clinic situated in Dangamvura is nearing completion.
“With the approval of the new master plan, the number of ambulances is set to increase. We are re-tooling to address the service delivery challenges affecting the city,” he said.
Mr Mutiwi added that they have also received a second tipper truck and they are in the process of acquiring their first grader since 2008.
“We have acquired a second tipper truck in as many months and this shows that we are on the right direction. We are in the process of acquiring a grader for the first time since 2008. This is why our roads have been in bad shape,” he added.
