Caps United midfielder Brian Mapfumo was yesterday brought to the Harare Civil Court by a girlfriend who is claiming US$200 a month in maintenance fees. Irene Machunga accused the footballer of neglecting their child. “I want US$200 from him. He is a well-paid footballer at Caps United. I am not sure about what he earns, but the money is enough to sustain his child because at the moment he is not giving me anything.

“I do not have documented proof to show what he earns but he used to tell me that he earns a lot of money,” Machunga said. Mapfumo said he was unable to pay the amount.

“I earn US$400 monthly and I can give her US$40 per month.”

Magistrate Ms Vongai Muchuchuti ordered Mapfumo to pay US$60.
