CAPS’ PERFECT START

Sports Reporter

CAPS United are the only club in the Castle Lager Premiership with a perfect SIX points after the first round of fixtures.

The new-look Green Machine won for the second straight weekend when they beat Herentals 1-0 at Rufaro on Saturday with Obriel Chirinda scoring the priceless goal.

Chirinda, who has revealed that he has always been a CAPS United fan, was brought to the Green Machine in a massive shake-up which club president Farai Jere said was necessary to give the club a chance to win the league.

“The focus is on winning the league,” said Jere.

“That is the ultimate prize. We needed to refresh our team and give it a chance to win the league and hopefully that is what will happen.”

Chirinda joined his former coach, Takesure Chiragwi, in moving from Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Jere has long courted Chiragwi, a former CAPS United defender, who won the league at Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Last year, he came close to getting him from Ngezi Platinum Stars only for the deal to collapse at the last minute.

Now, he has his man and, after two games, the CAPS United fans are already in Dreamland.

Critics will say that they have been lucky that both their opening matches have come at Rufaro.

This means that those critics will be following CAPS United closely when they travel for the first time this season for a midweek game against Triangle at Gibbo.

It’s a match that will feature the top team in the league against the bottom club which has lost both opening games.

The midweek matches will see TelOne hosting Simba Bhora at Ascot, Hardrock hosting Chicken Inn at Chahwanda, Highlanders hosting MWOS at Barbourfields and Ngezi hosting ZPC Kariba on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Bulawayo Chiefs host Dynamos at Barbourfields, Madica Diamonds will take on champions Scottland at Gibbo and Herentals take on Agama at Rufaro.
