CAPS United players blew away a US$1,000 winning bonus when Simba Bhora grabbed a last-gasp equaliser at Wadzanai on Saturday.
A comical error by giant goalkeeper Wallace Magalane, who to his credit has been excellent since joining the Green Machine, helped the hosts steal a point with what was virtually the last play of the game.
Magalane has come under the spotlight in the past two games, for all the wrong reasons, after his mistake also allowed MWOS to equalise in their league match at Rufaro.
He needlessly left his goalline, when staying rooted there was the best option given his defender was chasing the MWOS forward, and Billy Veremu struck as he rolled the ball into an open goal.
On Saturday he was beaten at his near post, by a speculative shot, and while a slight bounce helped deceive him, he knows he should have done better.
He slumped to the floor, acknowledging his mistake, while his teammates comforted him.
What they didn’t show us was the pain of missing out on a US$1,000 jackpot, which was what club owner Farai Jere had promised each of his men, should they beat the former champions.
