CAPS United sign Madzongwe, Silla

A huge portion of CAPS United fans have rejoiced the signing of Bulawayo Chiefs midfielder, Kelvin Madzongwe.

Madzongwe was unveiled yesterday by the club president, Farai Jere, and coach, Lloyd Chitembwe.

Jere also confirmed the signing of Highlanders’ anchorman, Adrian Silla.

The duo joined Makepekepe on two-year deals.

CAPS United beat Dynamos, Chicken Inn and Highlanders in the race to lure the Boston University graduate.

He was club hunting after terminating his contract with the Ninjas.

“We are happy to announce the signing of Madzongwe and Silla. They have enough experience that brings everyone a lift,” said Jere.

Madzongwe is still regarded by FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza, as one of the best defensive midfielders in the country.

It remains to be seen if the 31-year-old brings his lucky charm to the Green Machine, as he has been winning everywhere he goes.

In fact, for the past two seasons, he has won the league title with FC Platinum and back-to-back Chibuku Super Cups with Mapeza’s side and the Ninjas.

Only Chitembwe knows his plans for him, as they already have another veteran, Devon Chafa, who operates as a defensive midfielder.

That is also the same zone Silla specialises in.

Chitembwe’s ability to redirect a player’s path is set to be tested with the introduction of Silla, whose career appears to be falling by the wayside.

Last season, he was below par and his reunion with Joel “Josta” Ngodzo might backfire for CAPS United should Chitembwe fail to manage the duo closely.

Meanwhile, there is also growing confidence that William Manondo, who took home last season’s Castle Lager Premiership Golden Boot and was first runner-up in the Soccer Stars, will remain at the club.

Manondo has turned down offers from Dynamos, Ngezi Platinum Stars, FC Platinum and Manica Diamonds.

Could this imply that the grass has suddenly turned green financially for the Harare giants after struggling last season.

Their capacity to keep Manondo is definitely a huge reflection of the club’s financial stability.
