CAPS United have turned a simple pre-season tour into a power play after Malawian side Silver Strikers pushed for a long-term partnership with the Green Machine.
The Harare giants completed a double over Silver Stars with a comprehensive 3-0 win yesterday.
Tinotenda Meke, McDonald Makuwe and young Shaun Choto were on target for Makepekepe. CAPS are a club who want to win battles both on the pitch and behind closed doors when the new season starts.
What started as a training camp has quickly grown into serious courtship talk in Lilongwe.
Nine-time Malawian champions have made it clear they see CAPS as more than just friendly opponents and view them as a natural ally with the kind of history, structure and ambition that makes sense for a deeper relationship.
Silver Strikers chief executive, Patrick Chimimba, spoke openly about his club’s desire to turn the connection into something bigger that stretches into technical cooperation, player pathways and business opportunities.
“At Silver Strikers we believe in partnerships with lots of teams and CAPS United has emerged as one of the clubs that we want to get into partnership with,” said Chimimba.
“There is Chawanangwa Kaonga who was playing for Silver Strikers and he is now with CAPS United, there is also Lloyd Njaliwa and Joseph Kamwendo who is also there, so it feels like CAPS United are the team that are looking at holding and helping our brothers.
“With that we believe that we are going to take this partnership beyond the games that we are playing here because there is a lot that we can learn from them and CAPS United can also learn a lot from Silver Strikers.”
CAPS director Maxwell Mironga and assistant coach Joseph Kamwendo visited Malawi in December to explore ways of strengthening ties between the clubs.
“In this period in time I think partnerships are the way to go and we will obviously deliberate and see how best the partnership can go because it is something that we always have to consider,” said Mironga.
“We can learn a lot from them and they can do the same with us too and we are ready to twin them and will work on the how part of it.”
Silver Strikers coach, Mapopa Msukwa, said the Green Machine have the quality to make noise once the league campaign begins.
“They’re good and they’ve got room to improve in terms of physicality and movement especially given that they are coming from the off season but I think they will do well in the 2026 PSL season,” he said.
