A HARARE man lost his car to bogus police officers on Tuesday.
Nick Mzimba, 29, of Sutherlands Heights, along Baines Avenue in the Avenues area of Harare, is a Braeside car dealer.
He drove to Arlington where he wanted to collect a plumber.
He then proceeded to Halsteads Hardware in Workington Industrial area intending to buy some building material.
Nick was intercepted by one of the three bogus officers who accused him of dealing in the buying and selling of cars without paying duty to ZIMRA.
The bogus cops also demanded to know if his vehicles were registered in his name and Nick told them that he had a Honda Vezel, at Braeside Car Sale, which was registered in his name.
He was told to lead them to the car park for some verifications of the authenticity of the car’s documents.
Harare provincial deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating a theft of a motor vehicle,” said Ass-Insp Mapisa.
“The accused persons led the complainant to several offices accusing him of selling vehicles without proper documents.
“Two of the accused persons got into his Honda Vezel while he got into the accused’s car.
“Upon arrival at F&G Service Station along Cresta Road, the accused persons removed the complainant’s handcuffs and took the complainant’s vehicle and left him with a Toyota Auris.
“Total value of the stolen vehicle is US$14 000 and nothing was recovered.”
