Career guidance vital for students

Tertiary students should take advantage of career guidance programmes to get as much information as possible, which will help them make informed choices when it comes to their career paths, a senior Government official has said. Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Deputy Minister Dr Win Mlambo told students, lecturers, heads of department and principals of various institutions that converged at the National University of Science and Technology for the provincial career guidance programme, Tech@School recently that career guidance programme was critical for all students.

“This tech@School programme is meant to impart valuable knowledge to the students and the students should take this opportunity to grasp the concepts conveyed to them by the business sector.”

He added that the initiative is also in line with the national economic blue- print, Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset), which has recognised ICT as a stand-alone sector contributing immensely towards the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“This programme also falls within the confines of the Office of the President and Cabinet’s e-Learning scheme which seeks to empower the nation through digitalisation,” he said.

The highly subscribed career guidance programme was organised by the ministry and TechnoMag in conjunction with Makcomms.

Hundreds of technology and commerce related students, lecturers, heads of department and principals of various institutions last week gathered in Matabeleland to witness the official opening of Tech@School’s, a provincial career guidance programme spearheaded by the Ministry of ICTPS and TechnoMag in conjunction with Makcomms.

Technomag founder and editor-in-chief Tonderai Rutsito said Tech@School was aimed at disseminating technological information at all higher and tertiary institutions across the country.

The event then ended with one-on- one question and answer session allowing students and delegates to fire questions to the Hon Minister and various managing directors presenting in the same session.
