THE Carling Black Label National Pool Tournament is set to return with even more excitement, featuring five new towns in the pre-qualifiers – Plumtree, Chegutu, Nyanga, Chirundu and Kariba.

This expansion is expected to draw in more participants and increase the competition’s popularity.

Kundayi Mawema, Delta Beverages  marketing manager (Lager Beer), said they are looking forward to increased participation across for categories.

“For over a decade, this premier competition has run in partnership with the Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) and has been a driving force in popularising pool at grassroots level.

“The sport has seen remarkable growth, with local bars and bottle stores becoming hubs for competitive play. These tournaments not only fuel passion for the game, but also boost business for venue owners, making it a win-win for all.

“This year, the tournament is bigger than ever, with regional qualifiers already underway at selected venues, supported by ZIPA and local traders, ensuring smooth and professional gameplay,’’ Mawema said.

The organisers have turned to social media platforms to facilitate  registration via WhatsApp, running for 10 weeks until August 2.

The winner is expected to walk away with US$2 500 and a professional pool table, the runner-up will take home US$1 500 while finishing third guarantees the player US$1 000 and fourth place will take home US$500.

Mawema added that Carling Black Label and ZIPA remain committed to Fair Play.

They have since combined forces to train over 60 referees nationwide to ensure the highest standards of fairness and professionalism because only true “Champions at Play” deserve recognition.
