Carol Mhandu Shines in Nedbank Half Marathon

CORRECTIONAL officer, Caroline Mhandu continues to make nation proud through her outstanding achievements in athletics.

Yesterday Mhandu claimed 1st place in the Nedbank Half Marathon in Harare, clocking a time of 1:20:37. This victory follows her impressive 2nd place finish on 27 April at the Prince Mangosuthu half Marathon in South Africa, where she recorded a time of 1:15:56.

Mhandu, who began her athletic journey while a student at Kandenga Secondary School in Buhera, has continued to rise through determination and passion.

Since joining ZPCS in 2016, she has represented both the Service and Zimbabwe with distinction in numerous regional events, including finishing second in both the Two Oceans Half Marathon (South Africa, 2021) and the Kazungula Bridge half Marathon (Botswana, 22 February 2025).

She pays heartfelt tribute to the Commissioner General of ZPCS for the opportunity to represent the Service and acknowledges the unwavering support of her coach.

Caroline encourages the girl child to embrace athletics, a sport she fell in love with watching on television, as a powerful path for empowerment and national pride.

In the same Nedbank event, a veteran ZPCS runner Kelvin Pangiso also impressed by finishing 4th overall and securing the first prize in the veteran category, further underlining ZPCS’s growing legacy in competitive sports.

Meanwhile, on the netball courts of South Africa, Thandazile Ndlovu, Goal Shooter for Correctional Queens Netball Club, continues to shine in the Telkom Club Tournament (April 26 May 4).

Her prolific scoring is helping maintain the team’s top spot in the domestic Rainbow Netball League ZPCS.
