The Zambians said they will now host the Castle Sevens on September 7 and 8 at the same venue in Lusaka.
Zimbabwe’s men and women’s rugby teams feature regularly at the tournament.
Zimbabwe Women’s Rugby chairperson, Abigail Mnikwa, said they were now looking at sending the team to the Safaricom tournament in Kenya.
“It is sad that we will not be sending our teams to Zambia. We are now looking at sending the Pangolins to the Safaricom tournament in Kenya in September.
“The women’s team were looking forward to the Sevens in Zambia as they have been training in preparation for the tournament and are eager to continue with their training.
“If we get sponsorship it will be good that our teams continue training to keep fit and improve on their skills,” said Mnikwa.
Zimbabwe Sevens chairman, Donald Mangenje, said they were still to decide which tournament the men’s team will take part in.
“We are still to make a decision on where our men’s team must go, whether the Safaricom in Kenya or the Middleburg tournament in South Africa, because the two tournaments seem to be clashing,” said Mangenje.
Meanwhile, Harare Sports Club wing Shayne Makombe said their match against Old Hararians was a 50-50 affair although they lost to their bitter rivals.
Sports Club succumbed to a 13-18 loss at the hands of their biggest rivals.
“Our match was 50-50, we started off on a good note and we were able to score some tries, but in the second half we lost it and left a few gaps which gave our opponents the opportunity to capitalise on to win the match,” said Makombe.
“We are now going to work on our mistakes during our training and, hopefully, will polish up so that we are ready for our next match.”
Tawanda Chowe, Victor Mushoriwa and Tich Makwanya had a good afternoon for the Old Boys.
Panthers thumped Old Miltonians 52-25 in Bulawayo while Mat Warriors suffered a 5-20 defeat at the hands of Old Georgains.
