Dry weekend for Harare residents

WATER shortages that hit most western suburbs in Harare since Monday are likely to persist over the weekend after a Zesa  transformer blew up at Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant yesterday.
This affected the maintenance of major pumps that burst after flooding.

By yesterday, council engineers had repaired one of the four pumps.
The pumps supply main water controls and reservoirs that feed all western suburbs, Norton and Chitungwiza.
Council spokesperson Mr Leslie Gwindi yesterday said the transformer “explosion” had derailed maintenance works.
“The maintenance process was progressing well and one of the main pumps was up and we were about to bring up the other three when we encountered the problem,” he said.
