KAROI Town Council and the Roman Catholic Church have announced a partnership to establish a primary teachers’ training college in Karoi.
Mayor Alderman Kudakwashe Chigumo said the establishment of the Karoi Primary Teachers’ Training College marks an historic milestone for the council, Hurungwe District and Mashonaland West Province.Chigumo described the proposed institution as a transformative project that will position Karoi not only as a transit hub, but also as a centre of academic excellence.
“This institution is the cornerstone of the council’s strategy to build a knowledge-driven local economy,” he said.“The influx of students will drive demand in the retail sector and create employment opportunities for local residents.
“Corporate and supporting infrastructure naturally follow academic hubs.
“A vibrant student community enriches local culture and strengthens social cohesion.
“Local schools will benefit from a steady supply of well-trained primary school teachers.”He added:“When children see opportunities for higher education within their community, they become motivated to aim higher academically.“We, together with all service providers, will prioritise reliable water supply, waste management services and the maintenance of access roads leading to the campus.Together, we are building a sustainable town rooted in education and shared prosperity.”Roman Catholic priest, Father Kenneth Mapanda, said:
“A teachers’ training college helps people discover and utilise their God-given talents.
“That is why the church wants to establish this institution — to promote human dignity, fight ignorance and poverty and nurture responsible citizens. We are promoting the common good through a partnership in nation building, moral and ethical development and the reduction of social problems.
“By building a teachers’ training college, the church is complementing Government efforts to reduce poverty, unemployment and dependency.”
