One person believed to be a Catholic priest from Murombedzi died early this morning after his vehicle collided with a truck along Chinhoyi-Chegutu Road.

The accident occurred at around 3am about 25km before Chegutu when a Toyota Hilux single cab allegedly encroached into the lane of an oncoming truck.

The driver died on the spot, while those in the ore-laden truck escaped with minor injuries.

Mr David Tavengwa said the fire brigade from Chegutu helped to retrieve the body from the wreckage.

“The accident occurred around 3:30am when I heard a loud bang, but could not immediately go out to check,” said Mr Tavengwa.

“When I eventually went to the scene which is about 200 metres from my home, I saw the mangled vehicle while firefighters were cutting the wreckage to retrieve the body.”

Mr Josphat Chikomo, who was on the scene, said the area was now a black spot after another accident that killed two people last week.
