For me, it’s more than just a day for lovers. It is an important day for me because that’s when God brought me to this world, and since then I have not trusted anyone except the Almighty God for he is the greatest.
So this week I decided to do a preview of what is in store on this special day not only for myself but also for many others who recognise the power of love. Like the song that says “everyone falls in love sometimes”, DStv have put together a mega dose of romantic comedies and love stories this Valentine’s Day. From romance to cooking shows and reality drama; everything goes in the run-up to Valentine’s Day. Below is a guide to what you can look forward to.
M-NET EAST(DStv Channel 101)
Going The Distance: Erin (Drew Barrymore) and Garrett (Justin Long) are very much in love. When Erin moves to San Francisco to finish her journalism degree and Garrett stays behind in New York to work in the music industry, they gamely keep their romance alive with webcams and frequent-flyer miles. However, just when it seems the lovers will be soon be reunited, Erin and Garrett both score big breaks that could break them up for good. DStv audiences can tune into M-Net West on Wednesday February 29 to find out whether their relationship can survive the long distance between them.
(EAST ONLY)
I Hate Valentine’s Day: My Big Fat Greek Wedding co-stars Nia Vardalos and John Corbett re-team for this romantic comedy about a carefree florist who falls for a charming restaurateur. Genevieve (Vardalos) loves romance, though she lives by a strict “five dates” rule. At the end of the fifth date, Genevieve typically calls the relationship off.
So far, this method has worked like a charm, but when Genevieve meets Greg (Corbett) everything changes. At the end of their fifth date, Genevieve wants more. If she could only break from tradition long enough to realise she’s fallen in love, perhaps she’ll find out that some guys are worth keeping around. DStv audiences can tune into M-Net East to find out whether true love prevails.
Valentine’s Day: In a series of interconnected stories, various Los Angeles residents (Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper) wind their way through the highs and lows of love during a single day. DStv audiences can tune into M-Net East on Saturday February 11 to watch them experience first dates, longtime commitments, youthful crushes and connect to old flames.
Notting Hill: William Thacker (Hugh Grant), an unsuccessful Notting Hill bookstore owner, when Anna Scott (Julia Roberts), the world’s most beautiful woman and best-liked actress, enters his shop. A little later, he still can’t believe it himself, William runs into her again – this time spilling orange juice over her.
Anna accepts his offer to change in his nearby apartment, and thanks him with a kiss, which seems to surprise her even more than him. Eventually, Anna and William get to know each other better over the months, but being together with the world’s most wanted woman is not easy – neither around your closest friends, nor in front of the all-devouring Press.
DStv audiences can tune into M-Net East on Monday 20 February to find out whether William and Anna’s worlds can meet in the middle.
Brown Sugar: A producer (Taye Diggs) for a record company falls for his longtime friend (Sanaa Lathan) shortly after proposing to his girlfriend. DStv audiences can tune into M-Net East on Saturday February 25 to watch this classic romcom.
M-NET STARS(DStv Channel 105)
Ghost (1990): DStv audiences can tune into M-Net Stars on Tuesday February 14 at 19:30 CAT to watch this classic love story starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. After he’s murdered (Swayze), a young executive attempts to communicate with his girlfriend through a phony psychic (Whoopi Goldberg).
Email of the Week
This email comes with my greetings and best wishes for your work. I’m a teacher at St Faith’s High School in Rusape. I came across your article on the above subject, which prompted me to write to you.
I am a patron to a quiz club at my school. We are interested in participating in the National High Schools Quiz competitions. Could you furnish me with details on how we can register to participate or possibly link us to organisers of this important event? Should you require additional information, do not hesitate to contact me on 0775876329 or e-mail [email protected]
Yours truly
Matthew Chimba
NB: We have taken note of your request and we hope that producers of the programme as well as would-be sponsors will act on the suggestion and bring back the National High Schools’ Quiz on to the small screen.
Like in all previous articles we have provided suggestions but ZBCTV seem to ignore or at least are taking long to implement whatever is it that we suggest. Thank you for your contribution.
