Central region log leaders face stern tests

Chapungu host a Chrome Stars side which has found a new lease of life since the second half of the season and last week burst into the top four after edging FC Platinum Under-19s 1-0 while log leaders Tripple B have a date with Airstars at Rutendo Stadium.

The Redcliff-based side have also made their homeground a formidable fortress where they have shocked some of the region’s top teams including Strikers whom they beat 1-0 in the first half of the season.

A win for Tripple B will see them maintaining their 11-point cushion over second-placed  Strikers at the top of the log standings while a loss might see their closest rivals  closing the gap if they post positive results.

For Airstars a loss tomorrow will sink them deeper into the murky waters of relegation as they lie second from the bottom in the 16-team league after amassing a paltry 14 points.

“Vavheneki” as FC Strikers are known by their multitude of Beitbridge faithfuls welcome army side Tongogara who have found the going tough this season.

The army side has been a pale shadow of the team which was in the promotion race last year and last week Chapungu piled more misery on the Battlefields-based outfit when they beat them 2-1 in their backyard.

At the tail end it will be a battle for survival when Jessie Mine travel to Gweru for a date with correctional services side Hwahwa in a match both teams would want to win to crawl out of the relegation zone.
