The incident occurred on Tuesday at about 11 pm at a homestead in Maphetshana Village, where Junior Ndlovu, who is on the run for attempted murder, armed himself with an axe and struck his brother Josphat.
Officer Commanding Lupane District Chief Superintendent Johannes Govo confirmed the incident and said the complainant was battling for life at Mpilo Central Hospital.
“The suspect Junior Ndlovu, arrived home drunk on Tuesday night and started insulting his wife, Ms Siduduzile Nkomo (28), for failing to respect and cook for him. He then removed his leather belt and started assaulting her all over the body,” said Chief Supt Govo.
He said Ndlovu went on to use fists to assault Ms Nkomo who screamed and alerted her mother-in-law who stayed nearby.
“The mother-in-law went into the house followed by Ndlovu’s brother and they stopped Ndlovu from assaulting his wife. His mother took Ms Nkomo to her homestead and left the two brothers arguing.
“After a while, Ndlovu armed himself with an axe and charged towards his brother. He struck him thrice on the head and he immediately fell down. He ran to his mother’s homestead and told her that he had killed his brother,” he said.
Chief Supt Govo said Ms Nkomo screamed and alerted villagers who woke up and confronted Ndlovu who threatened them with an axe before disappearing into the dark.
“Ndlovu is on the run. His brother sustained deep cuts on the head and is battling for life at Mpilo Central Hospital. Investigations are underway and we appeal to members of the public with information which might lead to the arrest of Ndlovu to visit the nearest police station,” said Chief Supt Govo.
