CONTROVERSY is shaking the Zifa Central Region Soccer League as allegations of favouritism and underhand dealings threaten to overshadow the title race.
Sheasham lead the promotion chase with 69 points, just two ahead of Hardrock, while Gwanda Pirates trail eight points behind. But it is Hardrock 13–0 demolition of Gokwe North on Wednesday that has sparked suspicion among rivals.
Reports suggest that Gold Metals Investments, owned by Hardrock boss Shepherd Chahwanda, supplied kits to Gokwe North. The company is also said to have supported Tongogara and Grain Tigers, both based in the mining town. Critics claim such backing could skew the competition.
Adding fuel to the fire is a double player identity scandal.
Hardrock’s Tanyaradzwa Godfrey Tsiga played in their 3–0 win over ZRP Gwanda in August. However, the same player is listed as Ephany Gwawawa at Dulibadzimu, born July 6, 2001. At Hardrock, he appears as Tsiga, born August 15, 2007, allowing him to qualify as a development player.
Dulibadzimu club secretary Combat Moyo, confirmed the player left during the mid-season transfer window. “We released him after he asked to join another club. He was a Dynamos player on loan,” Moyo said.
Dynamos chairperson Moses Maunganidze, added that the player remains on their books. “We are assisting Central Region with information. I cannot give further details as it may affect ongoing investigations,” he said.
Central Region chairperson Patrick Hill, dismissed claims that Sheasham are receiving special treatment. He confirmed a complaint from ZRP Gwanda and said the league has followed procedures, including withdrawing the player’s licence. “Our prosecutor is handling the case, which will go to the Disciplinary Committee. Investigations are ongoing, and we aim to resolve the matter before the final five games, to protect league integrity,” Hill said.
On claims that Sheasham bought influence through kit donations, Hill said there is no evidence of wrongdoing. “We do not control club sponsorships or kit donations. Unless kits were directly branded by Hardrock, it is not a league matter. No formal complaints have been filed,” he added.
The drama has put the Central Region title race under the microscope. Fans are watching closely as Sheasham, Hardrock, and Gwanda Pirates battle for promotion while allegations of corruption and double player scandals swirl around the league.
