CHAMINUKA BAFFLED BY DEMBARE’S FAILURE TO PROTECT LEADS

SAUL CHAMINUKA has spent most of this week configuring his players’ mentality for them to be able to ring-fence their advantage once they score first.

The Glamour Boys have been unable to do so since he took over the reins from Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe two months ago.

They are enduring one of their worst spells in years as they continue swimming around relegation reservoirs.

Dynamos have been able to score in five of the six games under Chaminuka, breaking the ice first in each of those games.

Save for the FC Platinum game, whose fate lies in the hands of the PSL Disciplinary Committee, Dynamos have gone on to win just once, against Yadah, in all those games.

Dynamos took the lead against CAPS United in Chaminuka’s first game in charge through captain Emmanuel Jalai but then allowed CAPS United to rally back and force a share of the spoils.

They opened the scoring again at Ngezi Platinum Stars with the latter’s goalkeeper Tendai Chirara turning a cross into his own net but again the Glamour Boys relaxed and let the home side off the hook, literally giving them two late goals to lose 1-2.

“I think the boys have done well, except, of course, for that blot (against FC Platinum) where the match ended prematurely and, like I said, it’s something that we should be able to have gone over now.

“It’s not a question of fitness. You’re thinking it’s the mental aspect, right? What happens after we score? It’s like we have invited problems and since we started training yesterday (on Tuesday), we’ve been trying to address this.

“You look at it like, well, we are able to score earlier than our opponents but what follows after we score is some unwanted trend.

“We tend to relax and we overdo that, at times. I don’t know what then creeps into our minds. We are allowing the opponents to come back into the game too many times.

“We have spent a lot of time talking to the players about this, we hope to see some improvements but, yeah, it’s giving me some awkward moments.”

Chaminuka will this weekend lead his Glamour Boys against a team that gave him a name, ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga.

He has already faced the same team this season when his Kwekwe United suffered a 5-0 bashing at the same venue.

“One thing I know is we are going to score goals in that game. And again, I think, our biggest undoing is after scoring.

“We are failing to maintain the lead.”
