adminThe trial of two Gauteng policemen, who allegedly shot at musician Khuli Chana, has been set down for September. They appeared briefly in the Randburg Magistrate’s court over the weekend.Chana’s car was shot at several times at a petrol station in Midrand. This was after he failed to stop at a roadblock on the N1. Chana, whose real name is Khulane Morule, was wounded in the hand and back.
The two policemen, Sam Baloyi and Mduduzi Nzuza, have been charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, failure to take reasonable precautions to avoid danger, and the negligent use of a firearm.
The officers claim they mistook Chana’s luxury vehicle to that of kidnappers. They had been searching for a group of men who kidnapped a Johannesburg businessman.
A police officer has since been arrested and charged with the kidnapping. The matter will be heard again on the September 8. —SABC
