Confusion and Zifa Eastern Region Division One League perennial bridesmaids Mutare City Rovers are inseparable.
Mutare City Rovers witnessed the abrupt resignation of a key member of the club executive — Isdore Bingura — in a sad development for the club that is expected to throw their Premiership promotional campaign off the rails.
Bingura was a vital cog in the City Rovers camp and apart from his moral support for the team by making himself available even during team training sessions at Sports Oval Ground in Sakubva, he occasional dug deep into his personal coffers to lend financial support to the club.
Such was the commitment that Bingura displayed during his tenure, but a nasty boardroom coup erupted recently with allegations of meddling with technical affairs being levelled against him.
Bingura would have none of it and he resigned.
City Rovers spokesperson, Clayton Masekesa, confirmed the development.
“Yes, he resigned. There were some issues and he chose to hand in his letter of resignation.
“However, as an executive we will sit and deliberate on the issue. There could have been some misunderstandings, but there is no doubt that he was and remains vital in our plans. He was very helpful to our cause and we feel we need him more than he needs us,” said Masekesa.
Over the years, the Mutare side has gained the perennial bridesmaid tag after attaining third position upon their promotion from Division Two in 2011 before ending the season on second position in three successive seasons since 2012 in the Zifa Eastern Region Division One League.
With 25 points from 13 matches played, Gusha Bhora, as Rovers are fondly referred to by a good number of their fans in Mutare, are in third position on the latest Zifa Eastern Region Division table.
