STONING her neighbour’s child with a brick earned a Mutare woman 20 days behind bars.
Esther Mandopfuku (28) was convicted on her own plea of guilty by senior magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura.
She, however, was given an option to pay $50 fine. Mr Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.
The court heard that Mandopfuku hit the neighbour’s child with the brick after she saw her fighting with her 12-year-old daughter.
“Mandopfuku took a brick and threw it at the girl and it hit her on the neck resulting in her sustaining injuries,” said Mr Mudadirwa.
Asked on why she had acted unlawfully, Mandopfuku told the court that she was disciplining the minor.
“She was fighting with my daughter Your Worship and when I realised that they could hurt each other, I decided to intervene. I assaulted both children with a cane, but I never threw a brick at the child,” she said.
Mrs Chiundura warned her against her actions saying cases of domestic violence against children were on the increase.
