RUNAWAY leaders Chapungu will rekindle their rivalry with third placed Chrome Stars when the two sides clash in the Zifa Central Soccer League encounter at Ascot Stadium today.
The rivalry between the two sides dates back to 2007 when they were still part of the Zifa Southern Region and spilled to the Central Soccer League when the league was inaugurated in 2010.
This year the rivalry between the two sides reached fever pitch as both sides are in the running for promotion and this saw the reverse fixture which ended in a nil all stalemate being contested under a tense atmosphere where mind games and dirty tactics were employed.
However, recently the two sides have been met with contrasting fortunes with the airmen maintaining their fine run and last week shattering the league’s record books after going on for a 19 match unbeaten run while Chrome Stars have been operating in fits and starts which has seen them surrendering second spot to a resurgent Town United.
Since the mid-season break the chrome miners have lost two of their four matches with the last being the 0–1 loss to FC Platinum Under-19.
Elsewhere struggling MSU travel to Gwanda for a date with Vumbachikwe who are basking in glory after thumping Silo United 3-0 in their own backyard last week while former premiership outfit Hardbody plays host to Hwahwa at Wilson in a Gweru derby.
Hardbody will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to five matches as they are yet to taste defeat since the league resumed early this month while Hwahwa who have been inactive in the past two weeks will also want to win this encounter.
