CHAPUNGU and Harare City settled for a draw in an action-packed Castle Lager Premiership tie at Ascot yesterday. It was the visitors who dictated the pace in the early stages of the match and opened scoring as early as the 11th minute after a good passage of play involving Fransico Zikumbawire and Kudakwashe Kamwala whose pass found an unmarked Talent Chawapihwa in the box.
Chawapiwa then beat ‘keeper Talbert Shumba from close range.
The hosts restored parity in the 30th minute when former CAPS United and Hwange forward Tongai Magwendere headed home Hillary Mugoniwa’s lovely flighted ball from a corner kick.
Eight minutes earlier, Magwendere fired goalwards but ‘keeper Tafadzwa Dube was equal to the task.
Another headed attempt in the 36th minute just missed the target.
Then, in the second half, after Tineyi Chitora had done his part and flighted a cross into the box, an unmarked Magwendere fired a thunderous shot goalwards but, not for the first time, he missed the target.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men just before the second half when Crispen Dickson was given marching orders by referee Brighton Chimene following a bad challenge on ageless striker Philip Marufu.
Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino said he was disappointed they didn’t take all the three points.
Meanwhile, ZPC Kariba coach Sunday Chidzambwa is still searching his first league win at the club after his charges let slip again a first-half lead to settle for a draw against How Mine at Nyamhunga yesterday.
Limited Chikafa fired the hosts into the lead but an own goal by Ghanaian defender Sylvester Appiah denied them victory.
