Charlestonians launch debut music video

No doubt, Charleston Trust Primary School mastered the “Catch them young” idiom as it was evident in their Colour My Dreams music video that was launched at the school last Friday.

Stand number 16893 in Nkulumane 10 is like a god among men when it comes to primary education learning institutions. This is because it houses Charleston Trust Primary School, a state-of-the-art learning institution where art is not taken as a drab subject, where nursery rhymes are sung all day but rather, it is taken as a way to express one’s feelings, thoughts and memories.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Brighton Chirumbwana aka BmC of PlayOn Studios, Colour My Dreams is set to set the tone as to what parents can expect from their children.

The video was shot by one of Bulawayo’s renowned videographer, Brooklyn Films.

Ms Tina Masuku, a teacher at the school took Chronicle Showbiz on a tour of the school premises before the official video launch. The feeling of excitement was palpable as children from the school who make up the Charleston Trust Choir gave a live rendition of their song through an acapella version. One could not help but marvel at the level of excellence that the children exhibited.

The choirmaster and music coordinator at the school, Trevor Mawaka had nothing but adulation for the perseverance and grit that his choir put in for the project to be a success.

“The whole idea of the project was to make sure that music was not taught as a theory, but should be done practically too.

“Most of the time, we tax these children with notes only, but then the practicality side of things would be lacking and that triggered me to compose a song that we would practice and record.

“The song is an inspiration on its own and it underscores the need to nurture children to be artistes of note one day,” said Mawaka.

The mission statement of the self-professed Charlestonians is to have their dreams coloured bright.

In attendance at the event were the school authorities, media personnel and parents to support the children.

Faridah Mukumba and Chiedza Taodzera, the lead singers in the song were over the moon for the launch which they believe will kick-start their careers in the music business.

“I don’t know where to start right now because I’m so overwhelmed. The experience at the studio was surreal and I give credit to the choir and our coordinator for pushing us to record the song,” said Chiedza.

Faridah relished the chance to be behind the camera and alluded to the song “opening musical doors” for them as she has also composed songs.

The school also has a philanthropic drive where periodically the school donates food to the less-priviledged.
If laying a strong foundation is the key that will unlock artistic ingenuity from a tender age, then Charleston is indeed laying that mark on children.

The choir is set to record their debut album soon and the song Colour My Dreams will anchor it. — @eMKlass_49
